Tech Artifacts

Here are a few examples of assignments I may use in the classroom using tech.

Canva is an awesome way to create graphics, such an alternative book cover or book swag.

Padlet is a great way to start a discussion about a book or character like this:

Flipgrid is something I will use for students to share reflections about a book we read as a class.

These are resources I am excited to use and have enjoyed using in the facts.

Goals Reflection

Goals Reflection-

So here is what I posted at the beginning of the semester:
"1.   I want to have a list of resources of all media types that my students can access and use easily for researching new ideas and papers. This goal is aligned to ISTE Standard for Educators Reading: Informational Text Standard 7 because students need to be able to use multimedia to demonstrate their understanding of concepts.
2.  I want to know how and where students can publish their own writing for their peers and teachers and anyone else to access and read it. This goal is aligned to ISTE Standard for Educators Writing Standard 8 because it requires students to publish work in some way.
3. I want to have knowledge of many presentation tools so that my students can use different ways of presenting when standing in front of their peers. This goal is aligned to ISTE Standard for Educators Speaking and Listening Standard 5 because students need to be able to make choices and use their creativity."

Now, did I meet all of those goals? Let's think...

1. I would say I have a decent list of resources that I have learned to use and can guide my students through. I'll keep building it!
2. I have not learned this yet but it should be part of my next methods class.
3. Definitely have this one down! I designed a full PBL unit for another class and this knowledge was extremely helpful.
A goal for the future? Mastering more tools that my students will enjoy!

Classroom management and checking in...

1. What are your concerns about managing a class that is using technology? What are your plans for addressing those concerns?
I think my concerns for managing a classroom with technology are basically the same as my concerns for general classroom management. I want to be able to keep the class both interested and on task. I do worry about a student accessing something inappropriate but with strict filters in place by the district and having strict rules in the classroom, I hope I never encounter that. If I do, I have good ideas of how to handle it.

2. How is your lesson planning going for your field experience? What issues do you need to bring up with your cooperating teacher? What questions do you have for me?
My lesson plan is going great, mainly because I am done with it! I already taught in a cooperating classroom and had an incredible experience!

3. Look back at the goals you wrote at the beginning of this class. How are you progressing in meeting these goals? What do you need to do to meet them? What can I do to help?
I have learned SO MUCH in this class! I feel more confident and competent in technology integration every week and that is an amazing feeling. I still have areas we have not covered like how to help students verify a source is credible and I’m hoping we cover that.

Teacher Technology Interview Reflection

SO, part of this educational media class is teaching in an actual classroom and using technology to do it. Before doing this, I naturally needed to know what kind of tech is available and the policies and procedures around it. I interviewed my cooperating teacher and here are some thoughts to her responses...

What surprised you about your cooperating teacher’s responses? No surprises here. Everything sounds great. What are some things that you think are “good” about what they said? Why do you think that? The students use Google classroom and are familiar with it enough that the teacher can easily direct them to different parts of it. What are some things that maybe aren’t so good about what they said? Why do you think that? It appears there are only 1-2 platforms the students use and are familiar with. There is such a wide variety they will encounter that I think it would be beneficial to use a wider variety. How is what you learned in the interview going to impact the planning and implementation of your mini-lesson? Consider what you'll be able to use, what you'll need to do to get approvals, timelines, etc. Obviously knowing that they each have chromebooks and are familiar with Google Classroom, I had the teacher post the link they would need to our brainstorming board on Google Classroom and as a class we navigated from there together.

Nothing too surprising and having the information from the interview was essential!

To whom this may concern... just kidding, this should obviously concern everyone because my life and schoolwork are absolutely fascinating. Seriously though, being a teacher is very dear to me and the time I have spent in English classrooms is like being at home. I cannot wait to create my own classroom haven. One amazing thing in life is the fact that we as human beings strive to become better. We think of, and dedicate ourselves to goals to better our lives. For me, writing down goals is difficult because I have countless hopes and ideas for every aspect of my life. It is hard for me to condense and define all of the nonsense floating through my head. BUT I am going to try to do so and write 3 goals I have for this class.
Here goes...
This goal is aligned to ISTE Standard for Educators Speaking and Listening Standard 5 because students need to be able to make choices and use their creativity.
I would say that knowing how to do these things will engage my students to a greater degree. I believe that setting my own goals and sharing them with my students will help them feel more connected to me as an instructor and provide a good example. As far as tracking their progress towards their goals, I am still thinking about the best way to do that. I imagine there is a digital program that will help with this and I cannot wait to find it!
